Over the past few years, Arts on Grand has been undergoing a makeover. The restoration of the façade to its original appearance is the most visible part of that makeover. During the next few weeks, we will be installing a reception desk/welcome center at the front of the gallery and new merchandise display units in the Gallery Shop.

We now want a new logo to go with our new looks. (We have been using a painting of the front of the building as it appeared before it was restored, which is now obsolete.) To help come up with one, the board of directors has authorized a logo contest. The winner of the contest will receive a lifetime membership at Arts on Grand and $200.

Arts on Grand is a multidisciplinary art center with an exhibition gallery, studio and classroom space, and a Gallery Shop that sells original art by area artists. Our mission is to make the arts accessible to all. In addition to the visual arts, we have very active writers groups, a music in the gallery series, a film series, and a concert series.

The successful logo should be immediately recognizable with or without additional text. It should also be clearly reproducible at either much larger or much smaller sizes, as it will be used in a variety of places, including our Web site, print materials, labels, on our store windows, etc.

If the logo uses spot colors, they should be chosen using actual Pantone color swatches rather than the “virtual” swatches on a computer screen, which may vary from actual Pantone inks.

If the logo is in color, there should also be a black-and-white version.

If at all possible, the logo should be created in Adobe Illustrator. If this is not possible, a high-resolution Photoshop image may be used.

The contest is open to anyone who wants to enter. Entrants may submit more than one logo design. Each entry must be accompanied by an entry form that can be downloaded from this Web site. The entry should include a high-quality hard copy (or copies) of the logo. (If the logo is in color, both color and black-and-white versions must be submitted.) Logo designs will not be returned. Entries may be mailed or delivered in person to Arts on Grand, 408 Grand Avenue, Spencer, IA 51301. The deadline for submissions is 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 25.

The winner will be announced in the July Arts on Grand newsletter, and on our Web site. The winning logo will become the property of Arts on Grand. Its creator will be required to submit electronic copies of the logo and to sign an agreement guaranteeing that the design is the original work of the person submitting it and transferring all rights to its use to Arts on Grand.
