William Schmidt says in his artist statement "I
imagine photography to be a second language and like a language it can be
spoken coarsely or with great elegance. Sometimes it is even spoken
artfully. My floral work is a study in learning to speak elegantly
and with great emotion. The images are deceptively simple and
direct. My wish is for the viewer to find layers of sensual emotion
beneath the layers of ink on paper. |

Bill is a digital photographer, using both digital
cameras and archival printing techniques. For the most part his work
is unaltered except for standard photographic camera and darkroom
techniques such as adjustment of color, contrast and value as part of the
print process. |

| William is currently working on
three separate studies: Local Flora, Reflections in Architecture and
Portraits. William chose these three subjects "because of their
diverse and opposing character: the lush images of flowers, the austere
line in architecture and the complex intimacy of our nature in
portraiture." William resided in Oronoco, Minnesota. |
